The president of Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser, was interviewed by a British news outlet The Daily Mail. Mr. Bowser was asked when we should expect the next Nintendo Switch system to arrive, to which he replied that even though the Switch is approaching its seventh year on the market, “we’re still very optimistic about the Nintendo Switch.” He then spoke briefly about what’s next for the company, saying “even going into year seven, we feel very confident that the Switch can have a strong performance over the next few years,” then went on to say that “we’re always looking at how we can surprise and delight. How can we introduce new and unique ways to play. That’s always in front of our eyes.” So make of that what you will.
Q: When is the next Switch coming out? What types of features or new capabilities would you like to see?
“As we enter our seventh year for the Nintendo Switch, sales are still strong. I think we still have a very, very strong lineup. As Mr. Furukawa (Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa) said recently, we are entering uncharted territory with the platform. It’s exciting to see that the demand is still there. So, nothing to announce about any future consoles or devices, but we’re still feeling very optimistic about the Nintendo Switch.
I should be careful what I personally would like to see (in the new Switch). But what I can share is that one of the reasons that, even in its seventh year, we’re very confident that the Switch can have a strong performance over the next few years is that it’s still truly that unique device that you can play with in a variety of different ways, at home, on the go. One of the things we always look at is how we can surprise and delight. How we can introduce new unique ways to play. It is always in front of our eyes.”
