A while ago it seemed that Nintendo was fully embracing smartphone gaming as a way to get more exposure for some of its classic IPs. While that plan appears to have been scaled back quite a bit, it appears that Nintendo is still exploring its options with iOS and Android games. A recently granted patent shows that Nintendo is investigating how the new Nintendogs game could work on smartphones. The original Nintendogs game was ported to the Nintendo DS platform in 2005 by an incredible amount of copies. It seems to be a franchise perfectly suited for causal mobile gamers, although it remains unclear if it will be released, although it seems a safe bet for success. You can view the patent here
