Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told a Japanese news site Mainichi that he does not believe that “the presence or absence of a successor will have a major impact on purchasing customers [the Switch].” This was in response to the question of whether or not the presence of Nintendo’s next console will affect sales of the current Nintendo Switch during the all-important Christmas shopping season, when video game companies make most of their money.
President Furukawa said of the details of the Nintendo Switch successor, “There is no change in the plan to release it during the fiscal year ending in March 2025. I can’t say anything more than that.” As for potential hesitancy to buy the current model due to the announcement of a successor, he added: “I can’t say it doesn’t exist at all, but the Switch is already in its eighth year since launch. I don’t think the presence or absence of a successor will have much of an impact on buyers buying it at this point.”
