Nintendo’s Switch Online Playtest is already streaming, unsurprisingly

Just a few weeks ago, Nintendo announced that they would be hosting a new Switch Online Playtest program. As part of that, attendees were told not to “discuss or reveal” anything about it, and almost immediately information about what to expect leaked online.

Now, in an update, the playtest has gone live and users are already uploading screenshots, videos and even streaming the game. According to participants via social media, Nintendo didn’t bother to disable screenshots or playtest recordings, so this version’s recordings can be archived.

Some players are currently streaming playtests on sites like Twitch and YouTubebut it seems copyright takedowns are already being issued. While we won’t be sharing anything here on Nintendo Life, footage and screenshots of this test are also making the rounds on social media and elsewhere online like Reddit.

Nintendo originally hyped up this playtest by mentioning how it would tie in with a “new feature” for the Switch Online service. It’s also promoted as a first-come, first-served program and is limited to select locations around the world, so not everyone can participate.

The fact that the takedowns are already being announced seems to indicate that Nintendo isn’t kidding. This is not an isolated case. Valve’s new Steam multiplayer action game A standstill (which is currently in early development) was recently in a similar situation.
