Bandai Namco has announced One Piece Odyssey, a turn-based RPG set in the wildly popular Shōnen Jump manga series One piececoming to Nintendo Switch on July 26, 2024

One Piece Odyssey was first released on PlayStation, Xbox and PC in January 2023, and the Switch version comes with the post-game scenario ‘Reunion of Memories’, additional costumes for the Straw Hat Crew, plus some brand new outfits that will debut in the Switch edition of the game.

We’ve seen quite a few One Piece video games on the Switch over the years — namely the fighting games Pirate Warriors and World Red — One Piece Odyssey is quite different from the two. Featuring a largely original story and all-new character and monster designs from mangaka Eiichira Oda, One Piece Odyssey brings the Straw Hats into the world of turn-based RPGs.

Luffy and his crew are washed up on a mysterious island after a storm, and while there, they meet Adia and Lima, who are from this island, known as Waford. However, Luffy is separated from his friends and stripped of his powers, so he must save his crew and regain his powers in order to leave the island. You’ll be able to control all of the Straw Hat Pirates, each with different abilities to help during combat and transitions.

The fight is a little it’s also different from standard turn-based stuff. A system called ‘Scramble Area Battles’ divides each battle into different parts. Moving characters between these sections to make sure you protect your weaknesses and uncover your enemy’s strengths is the key to victory.

Our sister site Push Square reviewed One Piece Odyssey when it dropped last year, and scored a pretty nice 8/10, calling it “an absolute delight of a JRPG.”
