Last month, the new game Peppa Pig: World Adventures made headlines when a clip of the game showing a random tribute to Queen Elizabeth II went viral.
The game’s lead producer David Moral shed some light on the situation, explaining to Eurogamer that the queen had passed away during development and that “the whole trip to London” had already been done with her. It “didn’t feel right” to remove the content, so the team instead added a special screen as a mark of respect.
“Unfortunately, the Queen passed away during development, and at that point we had already implemented the Queen character and built this whole journey in London…When the news broke, there was a discussion about how we should solve the problem, because obviously there were different options. We could have removed travel, we could have removed London and Queen from the game, which would have been an option.”
The producer went on to mention that “everyone” was happy about the decision to keep the Queen in the game, as children playing the game could learn how she was “such an important figure in the UK and the world for decades”. Moral added that its removal would result in less content in the game.
