PlatinGames, the studio behind the Bayonetta series, The wonder of 101, and recently Astral Chain, revealed that it had received a bid from China tech giant, Tencent.
Regular readers of this site will probably know that Tencent is grateful for its involvement with Nintendo, which is where it is hosting the latest launch of Touchch in China. PlatinGames spoke about the new funding on its official site, where developer and CEO Kenichi Sato emphasized that it would "not contribute to the independence of the company". Here is the complete statement:
We would like to announce that we have received funding from Tencent Holdings Limited as a foundation for the partnership. This partnership has no impact on the independence of our company, and we will continue to operate under our current corporate structure.
We hope to use this city to strengthen our business base and expand from game development to self-discovery and self-publishing. We also hope that these relationships can give us a broader perspective of the world, while building high-quality games that stay true to our brand.
Thank you always for your continued support. Please look forward to what we have in store.
This studio only works with switchch Bayonetta 3, as well as The Fall of Babylon on other platforms. It recently revealed that it has "major major announcements" to participate in early 2020.
