Palworld is currently taking the world by storm sold five million copies in three days despite the game being available on Game Pass. Speaking to Japanese publication Automation, Pocketpair’s CEO and lead developer, Takuro Mizobe, talked about the similarities to Game Freak’s Pokemon games and said that the main Pokemon franchise was a “great precursor” to what they ultimately achieved with the open-world adventure Palworld.
We take our games very seriously,” said Mizobe. “And we have absolutely no intention of infringing on the intellectual property of other companies.”
In a separate interview with Automation, Mizobe said that Palworld draws a lot of inspiration from Pokémon, as it was a “great precursor” to Pocketpair’s latest game and the creature-collecting genre as a whole. However, he explained that Palworld is less like Nintendo’s iconic IP and more like Studio Wildcard’s action-adventure survival game Ark: Survival Evolved.
