We’re all collectors here at Nintendo Life, always on the lookout for unusual finds, Japanese-exclusive games, awesome region-exclusive box art, and all sorts of weird and wonderful merchandise. However, this weekend, we came across something that we just cannot find any reliable information about, so we need your help!
This boxed version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess looks like an unfinished version of the final art for the full game. The components of the key art are all there — namely, the diagonal colour split and the Triforce in the middle — but without Link or Wolf Link’s faces there, or the saturated yellow where the white is on the box.
It looks like it might be a PAL-only box, perhaps something that came in a bundle with the Wii Zapper and Link’s Crossbow Training, perhaps, or maybe even a press copy that’s made its way out into the world. The sleeve itself is high-quality, definitely not something hastily printed out by a secondhand store on the lowest-grade A4 and shoved in the sleeve.
We’ve tried all of our usual avenues and explored all of the internet dungeons to try and divine its provenance, but to no avail — it’s a puzzle that any Zelda game would be proud of. Quite frankly, we’re in need of a heart piece or two!
So, we’re reaching out to you! Let us know below if you’ve spotted this out in the wild — or if you own this version — and drop us a comment if you’ve got anything on this potential rare find.
