Along with the reveal of the Switch 2, Nintendo also gave us a sneak peek at the brand new Mario Kart game; something many of us were hoping for after the last main entry was launched ten years before.

Yes, the game we're currently calling Mario Kart 9 is still somewhat shrouded in mystery, but a brief tease has revealed a number of tantalizing hints about what we can expect from the upcoming Switch 2 title.

One notable change that we (and indeed, many of you) caught was the design for Donkey Kong. We knew that Nintendo tried to bring back the character's 'retro' look from the NES days in the Movie Super Mario Brosbut it seems that this decision could be extended to the world of games.

This is especially evident given how much 'DKC' Donkey Kong design has been in the spotlight recently with the launch of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD on Switch. In the original Wii version, Retro Studios tried to keep the same visual design that made Rare popular in the 90s, but it seems Nintendo would ditch it entirely now for a slightly goofier look with more potential comedic value.

Honestly, even though we were a little taken aback at first, we actually really like the new look. Admittedly, DK's somewhat static expression in the Mario Kart 9 footage doesn't do him any favors, but we believe Nintendo's developers and partners will do wonders with the character in the coming years (if we do indeed get a new game!) .

But now it's over with you, dear people. What do you think of Mario Kart 9's Donkey Kong design (hey, that rhymes)? Are you excited about the new look, or would you rather Nintendo keep its classic, more recognizable design? Let us know by voting in the poll below.
