Free open source Switch emulator Yuzu made headlines a few weeks ago when released on Android devices.
Now, in somewhat related news, the unofficial and premier Yuzu piracy subreddit ‘r/NewYuzuPiracy’ has been banned. According to PC gamerThe subreddit – which covers piracy of the Switch game “as well as emulation” – jumped from around 37,000 members on May 1 to more than 70,000 members before it was shut down earlier this week.
Reddit banned the subreddit “for violating Reddit’s content policy against creating or repurposing a subreddit to represent or serve the same purpose as a previously banned or quarantined subreddit.” It was originally created in May 2020.
The subreddit has reportedly “grown dramatically” in recent weeks following the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Switch. Apparently it ended up being the “de facto home” for discussions about modding in the new Zelda as well as how to download and emulate the game.
my city uploaded images of the subreddit openly shared Tears of the Kingdom download links, with many users mentioning before the shutdown that it was only a matter of time before the sub was discontinued.
There’s no mention of Nintendo being involved in this latest shutdown, but the Mario creator recently broke the news after the Dolphin Emulator project for Valve’s Steam service was shelved indefinitely.
