Last week, following the end of the 3DS and Wii U eShop sales, Nintendo announced that it would extend the code redemption period to compensate for certain technical difficulties.
The new date has been extended to April 4th, 2023 in Japan, meaning that this extra time to redeem the codes has now ended here in the west as well. This marks the end of the ability to purchase or acquire new digital software in any way or in any form from these eShops.
Here is the message that now appears in the 3DS version of the game, when trying to redeem the code (via Twitter):
“Error Code: 011-3279 – Download codes can no longer be redeemed for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Thank you for playing Nintendo 3DS!”
When Nintendo initially announced that they would be extending the code redemption period, many independent developers began giving away their remaining eShop codes for free. Although you can no longer buy new games or redeem codes, you will still have access to your existing downloads.
