Apogee Entertainment revealed a brand new dungeon-crawling action RPG for the Switch during today’s Guerrilla Collective. And from the visuals alone, we’re getting serious The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap vibes.
Developed by Skydevilpalm, Quest Master is a beautiful looking game where you create your own dungeons. Quest Master is coming to Steam Early Access in the third quarter of 2023, while the Switch release will arrive when the game launches in version 1.0. So we may have to wait a little longer!
The whole game looks like a lovely pixel art ‘Zelda Maker’. Now we can create our dream 2D Zelda dungeons. You’ll be able to share cards online with other players, and it’s up to you whether you choose something creative and fun or incredibly difficult.
Here are all the details on the game so far from publisher Apogee:
Create a legendary journey from scratch with an intuitive level builder to craft simple dungeons and overworld-related missions in this faithful pixel art love letter to past top-down action JRPG classics. Drag and drop dozens of themed design tiles onto a blank canvas to create lava-filled caves, mountain worlds, grassy forests, desert dunes, and more. Give directions for the quest that follows or craft an epic story filled with placeable NPCs and customizable characters with tons of dialogue options.
When the masterpiece is complete, dash fearlessly into the world, ready to face belligerent bats, vicious snakes and vicious skeletons. Keep enemies at a safe distance with the bow or bring them into close combat with a precisely aimed shot. Master weapons and powerful magic, navigate user-created mazes, unlock doors and solve puzzles while fending off the dangers lurking within. Lead the advance with bodies of water and boulders that can only be crossed with a hammer or fins.
The journey is as easy or as difficult as the creator wants. Invent patience-testing experiences or entire missions with multiple biomes, bosses, and side missions. Place enemy spawn points in strategic places to create challenging dungeons (lockable upon entry!) before putting together the perfect puzzle with the ideal amount of flame traps, levers, time switches and invisible chests.
Go solo through custom mazes or dungeon crawl cooperatively with up to 3-player multiplayer sessions. Share created tasks with others and try out worlds created by fellow designers online. Recreate classic levels from famous top-down action games of old and craft adventures reminiscent of the 16-bit classics.
If you’re impressed with what you’ve seen of Quest Master so far, keep an eye on the game’s Steam page, and we’ll let you know as soon as we know when it’ll be available on Switch.
