If you’re a fan of seriously underrated Donkey of the Congo franchise from the GameCube era, then you’re in luck. A devoted fan created a tool called Conga Beat which allows you to import tracks and create your own custom tracks which can then be exported for use with Donkey Kong 2 or Donkey Kong 3.
Of course, the catch with this is that you’ll need to rip a copy of either game (which might be difficult for the latter, since it’s exclusive to Japan), and load it into the Dolphin emulator. That’s not the end of it either, but for a full rundown on how to get everything ready for Konga Beat, creator Parham Gholami has provided full breakdown of what you’ll need to do (it’s also worth noting that this is currently only for Windows-based computers).
Basically, though, once you’ve set everything up and downloaded Konga Beat, you can go ahead and create your own songs to use in the game. Now we should clarify that actual DK Bongo controllers are not yet compatible, however Gholami has admitted this and stated “I would like to include bongo support in the near future”.
There are also loose plans to enable support for the original Donkey Kong, but there likely won’t be support for other Namco rhythm franchises like Taiko no Tatsujin.
Fingers crossed for bongo support in the near future, as that is what will really give this project a solid boost in our eyes. The Dolphin emulator supports controllers by default, so we suspect it needs a little more work to interface with the Konga Beat.
