Citizens of Croatian city Split missed it Pokémon GO attack date because Niantic relied on incorrect map data.
Hiccup seen by Reddit user jaleCro (thanks, VG247):
Niantic obviously thinks that Split belongs to Italy as it did during WW2, we found our attack date canceled without notice. Jokes aside, it looks like they are using very large cells, because Split is 200km away from Italy. I think this was a cell, based on reports.
The map of the map in question effectively covers the east coast of Italy and Croatia's second largest city, which, during World War 2, was captured and set up by Italy. Although it is not possible for Niantic to rely on map data since then, it is a more humiliating mistake, given the history.
Called another Redditor BananApocalypse added to the discussion, claiming that Newfoundland often misses Pokémon GO events because the game doesn't think it's part of North America:
Kind of related, but I'm in Newfoundland, and obviously we're not part of North America. There have been no Tauros seen here and we do not find any regional divisions.
Rape Samerz360 confirmed this, he said:
Saskatoon here, is very far north of Tauros. At least we found Pachirisu. I think Newfoundland is one of the last parts of the world without a dedicated region.
It looks like Niantic needs to strengthen its regional boundaries in the future to avoid offending its fans. Did you find any discrepancies in your area?
