On May 29, 2024, Apogee Entertainment launched Quest Master through Early Access on Steam, and while it may be a while before the final product is released on Switch, that hasn’t stopped Nintendo fans from living out their ‘Zelda Maker’ fantasies.

In case you’re not aware, the game essentially lets you unleash your imagination and create unique, themed dungeons while boasting beautiful pixelated visuals and gameplay reminiscent of the classic Zelda games. It was confirmed for Switch during Guerilla Collective’s unveiling last year, but for now developer Skydevilpalm is hard at work polishing the game through Early Access.

We’re not surprised that creators are taking the opportunity to recreate iconic Zelda locations, but someone managed to go one step further and replicate the entire overworld from the original Legend of Zelda on the NES.

The fans didn’t stop there. In response to a comment on the post above, the official account stated “We have many dungeon recreations from Minish Cap, A Link to the Past, Oracle games, Link’s Awakening, the original NES, even Ocarina of Time! We are impressed with how well 3D dungeons translate to 2D.”

Officially, you can’t create real overworlds in Quest Master, dungeons only. However, it seems that this could be in the cards for the future once the game has had some time to mature. Hopefully by the time the game hits the Switch, we’ll be able to fully recreate an entire Zelda game. Wouldn’t that be something?

Meanwhile, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma previously played down the idea of an official Zelda Maker, stating, “I don’t think it would be good if The Legend of Zelda requires people to build things from scratch and forces them to be creative.”
