The developers behind the iOS app Deltawhich allows users to emulate thousands of Nintendo games on iPhone and iPad, hastily updated the app’s logo after receiving legal threats from Photoshop creators Adobe (thanks, The Verge).
In an update via the App Store, the notes simply state “Adobe threatened legal action if we didn’t change the app icon – so we did! Hope you like it “. The new permanent logo has yet to be revealed, but for now the old logo has been humorously altered to avoid potential similarities.
According to emails developer Riley Testut sent to The Verge, Adobe’s lawyers requested that a different logo be used going forward, albeit without an apparent threat. However, just a day later, an email from Apple suggested that the Delta app itself would be at risk of removal, citing a statement from Adobe that said Delta was infringing on its intellectual property rights.
The developers responded to both Adobe and Apple stating that the logo was based on a stylized Greek letter ‘delta’ rather than the letter ‘A’, but promised to change it immediately to ‘avoid confusion’ (and the obvious legal issues this could follow).
So for now we have a pretty wonky logo to contend with, but the Delta developers hope to have a new permanent logo ready in line with the Delta 1.6 implementation.
