You probably thought we drained the well of Breath of the Wild secrets, didn’t you? We are too. As it turns out, there are still features we didn’t know about.
One such fact was recently exposed by a YouTube channel Reimagined gameplay, who explained in a recent video that Champion’s Ballad’s Blight battles actually get easier with repeated attempts. Who would have thought Calamity Ganon would be so lenient?
In the video above, we get a full breakdown of dynamic difficulties at work. After repeatedly falling to the same enemy, the game will provide Link with a number of useful items to make the next attempt a little less of a chore.
After three attempts on one Blight, Link will begin his next run with a fairy in his quick revive items. If it drops three more times (bringing the total to six), the game throws in a meal and a boss-specific elixir on hand to help manage some of the tricker effects.
It’s not dynamic difficulty in the sense that bosses get weaker, but it’s a nice way to help those who may be struggling to overcome one specific battle — where’s the same setting for Dark Souls, eh?
And it turns out that it doesn’t just measure death attempts. As Gaming Reinvented’s video shows, you can trigger retry bonuses simply by entering and exiting a battle the required number of times. Of course, there are easier ways to get to each item, but it’s useful to know if you ever are really
We’d imagine this is one of the last ‘new’ Breath of the Wild reveals we’ll see, but hey, we’re always willing for a seven-year-old game to prove us wrong.
