Over the years there have been many requests for Nintendo to revive the GameCube hit Super Smash Bros. Melee, but according to former Nintendo employees Kit & Krysta, that probably won’t happen. IN a recent episode of their podcastthe pair answered a question about the possibility of Smash Bros. Melee in HD – completely ruling out the idea of it.
Krysta is adamant that it’s “absolutely 100% never going to happen”, and Kit echoes this – citing how Melee was “the mother of the 3-level game” at Nintendo, where if it’s mentioned, “you [would] kind of tense”. Apparently, the perception of Melee “inside Nintendo” and dealing with it was considered a “nightmare”.
Krysta: “There are so many negative things from Nintendo’s perspective about Melee that it’s just like… now it has ‘black market emulation’ around it and all these other things that Nintendo doesn’t like…”
Kit added that the Melee community probably won’t react well to the changes if the new version gets the green light:
Set: “I think one of the reasons not to make this game is how bored the community would be around it. If you change even one little detail about this game, it would be like, ‘Oh, this game isn’t sustainable.’
Krysta: “There’s no way to satisfy the zeal of that community, and I think Nintendo totally knows that.”
The two seem to think that a game like this would only cause Nintendo “more headaches” and mentioned that Nintendo’s best approach was to simply “sweep it under the rug” – where you “don’t talk about Melee”, let the community do it. yours, and you “move on”.
