Update:
The man himself has now actually responded to IGN’s post explaining exactly what he meant by the comment. When it comes to Zelda, the filmmaker realizes that it’s probably “best not to say anything” because it could be misconstrued. He even shared a photo of himself alongside the Tears of the Kingdom promotional poster, seemingly confirming the fact that he’s the real deal.

Filmmaker Wes Ball has been preparing red carpet events for his new film Monkey planet movie and he must be wondering a lots of questions about the anticipated live-action Legend of Zelda project.
While he’s open to talking about this anticipated film, one thing he didn’t want to reveal during a recent conversation with IGN was his favorite game in the series. The brief exchange resulted in an anticlimactic ending that he decided was best left unanswered.
Unsurprisingly, this last answer sparked a lot of conversation on social media. One suggestion as to why Wes won’t answer this simple question is that it might make people think the upcoming movie is based on a particular entry.
Some other Zelda fans are also concerned that he hasn’t played a Zelda game before, but he actually mentioned on multiple occasions that he played the series throughout his childhood and adulthood, and he knows how important the series is to fans around the world.
He actually (somehow) already answered this question about his favorite game. During the recent Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ he mentioned The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and also said he loved “the latest Breath of the Wild.”
