Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth comes out this week, and while many PlayStation 5 owners will likely dive into the highly anticipated release, game producer Yoshinori Kitase actually plans to return to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Speaking with BAFTAKitase mentioned that he has been a lifelong fan of the series since the original Legend of Zelda game on the NES and while he was enjoying Tears of the Kingdom, unfortunately life got in the way (as probably for many other Zelda fans).

Rebirth’s development took priority in his life and so he had to press pause on Nintendo’s new Zelda game before the very end!

Yoshinori Kitase: “I’m definitely playing most of them, including the latest one, Tears of the Kingdom. I actually got to the very end, but unfortunately my work on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth got really busy at that point, and I’ve been kind since it’s been on hold.”

Kitase also stated in the same interview that he has played “most” of the games in the Zelda series, but admittedly missed some of the spinoffs. As busy as he was, he still found time to revisit Pikmin 4 because he clearly has some unfinished business. Pikmin is also his favorite video game character.

Kitase on Pikmin 4: “There are still things I haven’t done yet, so I really want to go through everything and get everything,”
