Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has been out for a week now, and while it’s getting a lot of praise in its home country of Japan, some players seem to be struggling with the game – especially on the Switch.
As points out Automaton Mediaan Josei Prime weekly article cited some local players’ reviews of the game, and one common issue that many long-time Dragon Quest III players have is the size of the text in this latest remake. Many players claim that the “small” text hurts their eyes.
If you’re playing on Switch and in manual mode, that might not necessarily help the situation. Automaton further notes that the game’s “target audience is aging and farsighted” and that many of those same players could be struggling 36 years later. Here is one of these comments translated:
“The Dragon Quest 3 remake is great, but as someone from the Dragon Quest generation, the Switch screen is hard on my farsightedness. The text is so small”
Nintendo legend Takaya Imamura even seems to have gotten in on this with a simple “uh-oh” on his social media account…
There are plenty of quality life options in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, including the ability to speed up text and even adjust the camera angle to offer a closer perspective (which we found useful when changing television and monitor settings), but unfortunately, it seems that there is no possibility to increase the size of the text.
Square Enix could potentially release a patch that would allow users to increase the size of text in the game, but there is currently no official update on this. Although some players seem to struggle with the text, this remake is still worth checking out. The main issue we thought the Switch release had was some performance issues.
