Super Smash Bros. Melee turns 23 later this year, which is ridiculous to think about. How many times have you flipped through the manual, flipped through its pages and relived the nostalgia of playing Smash with your friends? And when you noticed that, on page 48 of the manual, the date 02.01.24 is it written down?
Yes, yesterday’s date — February 1, 2024 — was written on page 48 of the North American Super Smash Bros. manual. Melee. We checked our UK copy to make sure, but the manual here is only 45 pages long!
Many fans, including Nintendodeal on Twitter, noted the text stating an important achievement — “You solved a 100-man melee for the first time!”. In 2024? Come on Nintendo, you can do better than that!
The real question is — does “02.01.24” mean anything? Considering today is February 2nd and nothing Smash related happened yesterday, we don’t think so. It’s just a random date, folks — don’t panic!
Still, when Nintendo of America was putting together the manual for the GameCube classic, the staff probably didn’t have that date in mind. But now, more than 22 years after the game’s release in America, here we are in the year of our lord 2024, still fighting, continuing, etc.
We’re sure that even Nintendo didn’t expect Smash to become such a huge hit, nor that it would have such a huge roster as it ended up with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
