The Mario movie has now made $1 billion at the box office and it seems Nintendo is ready for more movies, so it’s no surprise that famous directors are ready to help with future adaptations for the big screen.
If a Metroid movie ever happens, Nintendo could consider Neill Blomkamp – best known as the co-writer and director of the sci-fi action hit District 9 and the director of the upcoming PlayStation movie, Gran Turismo.
In a recent incredibly brief exchange with a Metroid fan on Twitter, Neill mentioned in a one-word response that he would indeed be open to working on a Metroid movie with Nintendo.
If you’re still not convinced, Neill was once lined up for an Alien movie — which perhaps makes him an even better choice for something like a Metroid movie, with The Metroid games were originally influential
Of course, before we get too carried away here, Nintendo hasn’t said anything about a Metroid movie or any other Nintendo-themed movie…at least not yet.
The most we’ve heard about Nintendo’s cinematic universe lately is Shigeru Miyamoto’s comment earlier this month that there are “many possible paths” Nintendo could take in the future, relying on “characters that would be suitable for movies, or very famous characters”. In the near future, it seems the focus will be on the Mario Universe and possibly Donkey Kong.
While there’s no Metroid movie on the horizon, you can always check out the Metroid Prime Remastered edition on Switch if you’re looking for a Metroid experience. Nintendo also recently added Metroid Fusion GBA to the Switch Online service.
