Nintendo may be one of the largest and most successful video gaming companies, but in some parts of the world, it is often controversial about its brand image.
During the appearance at Present Value podcast Recently, Nintendo's former US President Reggie Fils-Aimé touched on the moment he debuted at the corporate headquarters of the American company, and the sales team was trying to "expand" the logo of the race form, hopefully, it could be more attractive to the old figure.
Reggie said in a prompt statement he told the team to accept "what kind of product it represents for you" by standing by its iconic brand to be successful. Here is the full text, courtesy of Nintendo All:
From a product standpoint, we had to be clear what Nintendo as a brand was, and what the individual franchises represented. I will give you an example. When I joined Nintendo, it felt a bit shameful that Nintendo appealed to younger consumers, and Nintendo's American sales team started doing things with the logo – that old Nintendo oval logo – they would put it in graffiti style, or they could do various things to try to grow the logo, and I stopped that's because that's not our mark. And all we had to do was say, to appeal to a broader consumer base, but we needed to do it based on what the brand represented, and not in some false way. Formally, we have gone through and refined the product launch, but also created messaging that is truly content-intensive, expanded the appeal, and set the stage for all the great products we were going to launch like Wii, like Wii Fit, and finally Nintendo Switch.
As noted by Reggie, adopting the logo allowed Nintendo to expand its appeal and reach, while at the same time for products like Wii and eventually the switch. It also allowed Nintendo to get a more important complaint.
Are you relieved to hear that we didn't get the Nintendo-style graffiti logo or the change was overworked? Share your thoughts below.
