While Kickstarter campaign may not be over yet, it’s fair to say that Hyperfocus Games fundraising for Ultra Pro Wrestling is off to a great start. With 22 days left to donate, the team have surpassed their £17,000 target and (at the time of writing) now have over £25,000.

The game is still in early development, but Hyperfocus has nevertheless confirmed a Nintendo Switch release and is even offering a physical copy for the console as one of its side prizes (thanks, Nintendo Everything).

As you can see by watching the trailer above, Ultra Pro Wrestling is inspired by the N64 wrestling games of the late 1990s — the likes of WWF No Mercy, WCW vs NWO Revenge, and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 are specifically mentioned in the developer summary. This is about a return to simplicity in control schemes, reduced cinematics and a focus on fetch wrestling back to wrestling games.

For a taste of some of the game’s features, check out the following:

– The basic management system is relatively simple and does not require the player to memorize a series of button/d-pad combinations in order to perform moves.
– While intuitive and easy to pick up for new players, UPW is also a rewarding game skillful game. There is no quantity “mashing buttons” or “move spam” it will save you from opponents with better weather reversals and more varied attacks.
– In order to perform a sequence of moves, you will be responsible for making every move. In other words, they don’t exist in-match cinematic’s where the game takes over. We feel that these automated sequences take the player out of the experience.
– When pinned or in a submission, you must press the eject button(s) repeatedly, representing the wrestler’s actual struggle to wake up/escape – as opposed to timing mini games.

The Kickstarter page it goes into detail about what we can expect from the game and we recommend that you go through it in its entirety to find out all of the developer’s plans. The next stages in the fundraising process hope to add more character customization, an online mode, and even a chance to get a career mode.

There are a number of rewards available for those who choose to donate, and each one is expected to ship in August 2024. That means we still have quite a bit of time to wait before we get news on the game’s release, but things certainly look like they’re moving in the right direction. direction.
