Still want to know? Alright then, let’s go…
According to Nate the Hate, Mistwalker has teamed up with Square Enix to bring an Apple Arcade RPG in 2021. Fantasy to replace. What’s more, the leaker seems to have no qualms about the matter, declaring, “It’s a thing. A fantasy want to be announced at the Nintendo Direct.”
Yes, we have our reservations, but Fantasian on Switch is an interesting prospect. The game was released on mobile in two parts in 2021, combining classic JRPG gameplay with beautiful ‘real world’ diorama environments.
Mistwalker, the developer and publisher of the Apple Arcade game, was founded by Hironobu Sakaguchi, a former Square employee and creator of the game Final fantasy series. The studio was founded after Sakaguchi left Square following the creator’s change in role at the company and the failure of the 2001 film. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
Pairing Backup with Square Enix for a console release seems like a bit of an odd move, but with Sakaguchi and Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu’s pedigree attached, a Switch port certainly seems like a reasonable possibility.
Check out the following screenshots from Apple Arcade list and tell us that I do not want to looks good on OLED.
Of course, this is nothing more than a rumor for now, and only an appearance at the Nintendo Direct will confirm it — not that we have long to wait there, mind you. You can find Nate the Hate’s full discussion of this plug in the timestamped video below.
Today’s Nintendo Direct Showcase will begin at 15:00 BST / 16:00 CET / 7:00 PT / 10:00 ET and should give us a better idea of what’s coming to Switch in the second half of 2024.
