It’s been a news-filled day for Nintendo fans, mostly due to the rumor mills continuing to churn out new rumors at an ever-increasing rate. However, you might be surprised to hear that the latest rumor has nothing to do with Nintendo’s next console. In fact, it’s linked to the retro libraries available on Nintendo Switch Online.
You see, a reliable data expert named LuigiBlood has discovered that the SNES Nintendo Switch Online library has had support for the SNES mouse hidden in its coding since launch. There hasn’t been anything new about it since then, until the new SNES games were added to the retro library yesterday. According to LuigiBlood, there has been some sort of major rework of the SNES mouse support code. Additional coding apparently added SNES Mouse support for both controller ports, the ability to swap SNES Mouse inputs, and even a different behavior.
This clearly suggests that Nintendo is, at the very least, looking at getting SNES mouse support to actually work on the SNES Switch Online emulator. With all that said, it’s worth noting that Nintendo hasn’t officially announced anything about it. It’s also worth noting that it’s unknown at this point if Nintendo will even be able to add support for the SNES mouse. If there are any further developments regarding this, we will let you know.
