In a new rumor doing the rounds, Amazon has apparently coughed up $600 million for the Tomb Raider franchise which would include games, movies, TV rights, merchandise, etc. The deal was reportedly recently finalized by Embracer Group who own the Tomb Raider IP after buying a number of Western studios in formal ownership Square Enix. If proven correct, it would be Amazon’s second major acquisition after acquiring the rights to the Lord of the Rings series. Amazon has yet to confirm this.
“Embracer Group has just sold its rights to ‘Tomb Raider’ to Amazon for a deal that we can exclusively reveal as a total package of approximately 600 million, making it Amazon’s second-largest acquisition after the television rights to ‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.’ Therefore, this puts into perspective the costs and prices that Embracer may be seeking.”
