Japanese gaming magazine Weekly Famitsu was able to speak with Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble producer Nobuhiro Suzuki. Mr. Suzuki was asked a number of questions including why SEGA decided to make Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. He responded by saying that the latest game in the beloved Super Monkey Ball series sold the most units on the Nintendo Switch and that development was accelerated by narrowing down the hardware. However, Mr. Suzuki would not rule out the possibility of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble coming to other platforms in the future.

Why they decided to make Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble Switch exclusive:

“Our number one reason was to deliver a stable and quality 16-player online game, which was the selling point this time around. By narrowing down the hardware, I think we could adjust the level of enjoyment for players.

The reason we chose the Switch over another console was simple. Of the customers who bought the last game, the Switch was the most common. If there is customer demand, I think we will consider expanding to other platforms in the future, so please support Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble.”

The connection between Super Monkey Ball and Nintendo:

“It’s a little hard to describe but, I’d say it’s not exactly like SEGA, it’s a title that suits Nintendo’s hardware… I think. It’s also been released as a launch title for Nintendo hardware in the past, so there seems to be quite a few buyers who think the series is more of a Nintendo title.”
