Switch has been out for six years today! Can you believe it? We’re not sure what’s more startling here, the idea that we haven’t had anything new from Nintendo in over half a decade, or the realization that 2017 is… six years ago…
Either way, making it to its sixth birthday while still churning out top-notch content like Fire Emblem Engage, Metroid Prime Remastered, and (okay, maybe we’re exaggerating here) The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is pretty good for any console. . At this point in their life cycles, the beloved Wii U was dead in the water, and even the ones that people look back on fondly, like the GBA, their successors have been sidelined for a long time.
What’s even more impressive is how the Switch managed to keep the ball consistently during its six-year lifespan. We’re not looking back on the “glory days” of 2017 with rose-tinted glasses and debating what the Switch “used to be,” because frankly, there’s a legitimate argument to be made that every single year has been a bumper year for Nintendo’s latest and (arguably) greatest.
But where’s the fun in saying, “eh, they’re all good”? We want to know what year it was best — and that’s where you perform.
Before we get down to voting, let’s take very fast see what each year has in store with a very brief overview…
in 2017
The launch was in 2017. This is the year we launched the Switch, as well as the release of many titles that we still consider to be some of the best on the console today, such as Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey. It was early, yes, but those days were undeniably good.
