As you already know, Nintendo He has never stood out for being a company that lowers the prices of its first party titles. It is not uncommon to see games from years ago from any platform that is practically the same price as when they were launched. Most consumers do not like this, but here we bring you data that can make us understand the reason for it.
The analyst David Gibson He has shared sales figures on some first party titles on Switch for this quarter compared to the last one, and the results are downright shocking.
These are the data that has been shared:
- In the third quarter of 2020, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has managed to sell 4 million units, which is 800,000 more than the same period in the third quarter of 2019.
- Super Mario Odyssey sold 2.2 million units this quarter, compared to 1.6 million in the same quarter last fiscal year.
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild has sold 1.8 million units sold this quarter, compared to 1.4 million in the third quarter of 2019.
- Splatoon 2 has sold 1.1 million units in the third quarter of 2020, surpassing the 800,000 sold in the third quarter of 2019.
Therefore and after seeing this data, the conclusion that is obtained is that Nintendo does not need to lower prices, because it knows that its titles have such quality that they will continue to sell well among consumers despite the time elapsed. As you all know, it is extremely rare for older titles, such as those mentioned above, to exceed their previous sales as the years go by being quite the opposite.
