In case you missed it, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 the movie trailer has been officially released, confirming John Wick, The Matrix and Cyberpunk 2077 star Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow.
While the third film is already a massive A milestone for everyone involved in the live-action series, this upcoming release also marks a very special moment for director (and Sonic fan) Jeff Fowler.
In a short post on social media, he mentioned that one of his first jobs in the “VFX industry” was actually animating Shadow. Sonic’s official social media account even described the achievement “twenty years later” as a “full-circle moment.”
Jeff Fowler: “One of my first jobs in the VFX industry was animating this incredible character for his first #SEGA standalone video game. Twenty years later, I couldn’t be more HONORED to bring SHADOW to the big screen in #SonicMovie3”
If you’re wondering what exactly is the standalone video game that Jeff has been working on – he seems to be referring to in 2005 title Shadow The Hedgehog. This followed Shadow’s debut in the Dreamcast release of Sonic Adventure 2 in 2001.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is coming to theaters December 20, 2024. The official trailer has reached almost six million views in just one day and is currently number one on YouTube.
