It looks like we have some interesting news about Sonic Mania, to say the least. A composer has revealed a curious detail, among other content, for its 7th anniversary!
Some of you may remember Penny’s Big Breakaway, announced in this latest Nintendo Direct. It’s from the same studio as Sonic Mania, which has already turned 7 years old. To celebrate, the following has already been shared:
- Christian Whitehead, the game’s developer, shared some interesting details about the development: he revealed that the ‘special stage UFO’ was initially going to chase the player after obtaining the Chaos Emerald.
Did you know that the Special Stage UFO was meant to get angry after you reached the Chaos Emerald and chase you down in sudden death for 10 seconds? Thankfully we had mercy and realized it would be challenging enough just reaching Mach 3 on the courses 😅 pic.twitter.com/a3oHw8t2n6

- Other contributors, such as composer Tee Lopes, marked the occasion with a previously unreleased song.
7 Years of ‘Sonic Mania’! 🎉 It’s incredible how this non-mainline game is still so widely celebrated, in an oversaturated market!

- Pixel artist and animator Paul Veer showed off preliminary sketches of the game.
This was actually my first time ever doing a proper multi-layered 2D platformer background, so it was quite a challenge. The version in the final game was finished up by @midio!
