Yesterday, SEGA and Sonic Team announced a new 2.5D Classic Sonic game called Sonic Superstars. The game will feature Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy as they defeat Dr. Eggman and Fang. Details about the game are slowly trickling in, and some new information has surfaced that has caught the attention of many Sonic fans.
You see, Sonic series producer Takashi Iizuka recently spoke to IGN about Sonic Superstars. In an interview, Iizuka confirms that there will be no return areas from previous Sonic games. In fact, Iizuka says that “what we wanted to do with Sonic Superstars was really create something new and go in there and create these brand new islands that you can explore as Sonic. We wanted to take Sonic [the] brand new North Star Islands and let Sonic run around in this new environment. So we wanted to make completely new places for Sonic in this new title”.
