As previously announced, Sonic Team is releasing the first of three free downloadable content packs in an update that should be released this Thursday on all platforms where Sonic Frontiers is available. The first content update will include a Photo Mode to capture your perfect in-game photos, new Challenge Modes including a new Boss Rush mode, and a Juke Box that lets you play your favorite Sonic Frontiers songs. The company detailed the new features on The PlayStation Blog and you can read about them below.
Photo mode
To capture memories of your trip, open the pause menu to access Photo Mode, which will pause gameplay and open a free-to-move camera to capture however you like. This mode may be unavailable during certain parts of the game.
Whether you’re battling enemies, grinding rails, or performing amazing aerial tricks, you can capture Sonic in action in a variety of landscapes to create the perfect scene for your photo. You can also choose from seven visual filters to add sparkle to your photos.
If you need help, you can turn on the grid to frame the perfect shot or reset the camera with the right analog stick to change the angle and mood of the photo.
New ways to challenge
After completing the main story campaign, the challenge modes are immediately playable via the title screen.
The new Cyber Space Challenge is a time-attack mode in which you will complete seven stages from each island (Kronos, Ares, Chaos) while racing against time.
Also, Sonic Frontiers now offers Battle Rush, a timed battle mode where you quickly defeat multiple rounds of enemies, Guardians, and Titans in one go. Aim for the fastest clear time and you might get a special surprise.
Jukebox
Play your favorite Sonic tunes throughout the Starfall Islands with the new Jukebox feature, which includes music from Sonic Frontiers and past Sonic games if you want a little nostalgia while you explore! Some of the songs include:
- Sega Sound Team, Tomoya Ohtani, Merry Kirk-Holmes – I’m here
- Crush 40 – Live and learn (Sound Adventure 2)
- Crush 40 – Open your heart (Sound adventure)
- Team Sega Sound, Tomoya Ohtani – Reach for the stars (Sonic Colors Ultimate) and more.
You can listen to any of the 53 tracks – 13 of which are currently unlocked and playable as soon as the game updates. Unlock the remaining 40 songs by collecting sound memorabilia on each island, so keep an eye out for those orange musical notes.
To change the music on the island, press the right directional button or hold to open the playlist. The jukebox can also be disabled in the Options menu.
Future Updates:
Two more updates to Sonic’s open-zone, action-packed adventure will arrive later this year and will include new features, challenges, playable characters and more. Details on release time and content will be revealed at a later date.
