Original story: Sega's latest Sonic Central has shared all sorts of updates, including a look at the story in the upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations. However, it doesn't end there, with Sony's 'State of Play' stream sharing a bit more information.
In case you missed it, Sega announced that special Sonic 3 movie content will be available later this year December 12, 2024. First of all, Keanu Reeves will appear in a special update voicing the Shadow. This 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack' is inspired by scenes from the third live-action film.
This same 'Movie Pack' is included in the digital deluxe edition of the game, and the game is scheduled to be released on October 25th. Here's a little more about this special movie package from PR:
“On December 12, St SONIC X SHADOW GENERATION Digital Deluxe owners can take on a new look as Shadow and play through a unique level inspired by the new movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, voiced by Keanu Reeves.”
Sonic series producer Shun Nakamura also shared some insight on the PlayStation Blog:
“This content will not have a story that per se relates directly to the film. Instead, as you can see in the trailer, it will be set in Tokyo, where Shadow visits in the film.”

As for the Sonic 3 movie, it will hit theaters after this one December 20, 2024. Sega also revealed a new story trailer for Sonic X Shadow Generations during the broadcast that showcases more returning characters.
