The Nintendo Switch has been such a huge sales success that there's only one home video game console that Nintendo's hybrid hardware has to top. Sony's PlayStation 2, which was originally launched in 2000, currently holds the number one spot. However, the Switch is very close, and Sony seems to be aware of this as well.
For example, former PlayStation head Jim Ryan said back in March that the PlayStation 2 had sold 160,000,000 units. Well, now Sony itself is saying the same thing on its PlayStation 30th Anniversary page. As of September 30th of this year, the Switch has sold 146,040,000 units, meaning they only need 11,000,000 more to surpass the PlayStation 2.
