The Legend of Zelda live-action movie has been making headlines for the past few weeks, and now Sony has jumped in, reiterating how “massive” it will be thanks to Shigeru Miyamoto’s “powerful vision” for this world.
Here’s exactly what Sony Motion Pictures Group president Tom Rothman said during an interview with Deadline — noting how Movie Super Mario Bros also benefited from his collaboration with Miyamoto and labeling him a “true genius” when it comes to Zelda, as he knows the world and “understands it completely”:
“Because the film is developed and worked in the closest possible cooperation with [Nintendo video game designer] Shigeru Miyamoto. He is a real genius in that world, and his strong vision actually motivates him. He created it and fully understands it. Only you [have] view the results Super Mario Brothers see.”
In the original announcement of the live-action film, it was revealed that Sony would be involved in the film, with Avi Arad (President of Arad Productions Inc.) working alongside Miyamoto.
Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) will direct this release on the big screen. It was previously reported that he followed Link’s adventures throughout his life. He also acknowledged the importance of the series and wants to “fulfill people’s greatest desires.”
