Remasters are all the rage these days, so what could be next? Well, the latest rumors doing the rounds suggest that Bandai Namco might be working on a Soul Calibur collection.
This information comes from reporter Nick “Shpeshal_Nick” Baker in the latest edition The Xbox Era podcast. Baker notes that his source didn’t actually clarify whether this was a remaster of the first game in the long-running fighting series or an entire collection of earlier entries:
“We all love remasters, we all love good remasters… so I heard Namco might be looking at it… [unclear] whether we’re only getting the original SoulCalibur remastered or if they’re doing a remastered collection of games…”
If it were a collection, it would probably include SoulCalibur II – originally released on the GameCube and multiple other platforms in 2003 (and featuring Zelda’s exclusive GameCube combat link). While the discussion of this rumor only mentioned an Xbox release, Bandai Namco is looking to port its fighting games to as many platforms as possible today.
Interestingly, this rumor continues after Bandai Namco renewed the trademark for SoulCalibur last October. While trademark renewals often don’t reveal much, a handful of Bandai Namco remasters have been revealed this way lately.
These include remasters of Klonoa and Pac-Man, and most recently the GameCube exclusive Baten Kaitos, whose trademark was renewed in May 2021, and is now getting a remaster of the first two games later this year.
