Yoshinori Kitase, a Japanese game director and producer at Square Enix who has worked on a number of classic RPGs, revealed in a recent interview that staff at the company keep asking him when they’re going to remake Final Fantasy VI. Final Fantasy VI (known as Final Fantasy III since its first North American release) launched in 1994 for the Super Nintendo to critical acclaim. Kitase says he believes it would be difficult to remake. Hironobu Sakaguchi, who is the creator of the Final Fantasy franchise, also chimed in, saying that due to the fact that Final Fantasy VI is a sprite-based game, not a pixel-based one, it would be a lot of work for the team, though he jokingly asked, “Wouldn’t you release a little earlier?”
