While we’re still in the dark about Nintendo’s plans for its successor to the popular Nintendo Switch system, we do know that it will be revealed before the end of March 2025. VGC recently sat down with veteran video game developer, Suda51, to discuss a range of things including his thoughts on the Nintendo Switch 2 and whether he plans to develop something for it. Here’s what he had to say:
Finally, Nintendo just announced that the successor to the Switch will be unveiled sometime before the end of March 2025. As someone who was present at the Switch announcement event, are you currently developing anything for the next console?
As a developer, are there any features you’d like to see in the next system that are currently missing or not good enough on the current Switch?
Just like everyone else, I have no idea what’s coming. But I’m really looking forward to seeing what they come up with both as a player and as a developer.
The Switch is a really successful and all-around great platform so I’d be hard pressed to find parts of it that aren’t “good enough”, and it’s done great things for indie games in particular. I think the Switch is great not only for gamers of all kinds, but also for developers of all kinds, especially indie developers
Even now, I still think it’s an amazing platform. I don’t have anything in particular that I can think of in terms of new features that I want to see in the next-gen iteration, but I’m really looking forward to seeing what Nintendo does with it. They have always done revolutionary things for software and the video game industry in general.
I’m really excited for the next console, especially since we’ll definitely be cooking for it.
