The developers behind the popular Switch Android emulator Skyline have announced an open source project is no longer in active development.
IN post shared on Discord, the team revealed that it had received a DMCA takedown notice from Nintendo. The catch is that the removal is actually related to Lockpick – homegrown software that spits out Switch security keys that are then used with this emulator. Nintendo believes that Lockpick circumvents and violates its own copy protections.
Skyline team: We are in a potentially infringing position [Nintendo’s] copyright continuing to develop our project, Skyline, throwing the keys off our own switches…All development on Skyline has been suspended due to potential legal risks, this website will remain active for the time being, but may be removed in the future.
Although Skyline is ending development, the emulator is still technically legal according to the team, and as a result, the repository and software updates will remain available for the foreseeable future. From now on, there will be no support.
