If you follow our regular Japanese chart reviews, you'll probably already know that Nintendo switchch had a great 2019 in its home country. The console has always looked up in terms of both Hardware and software, and now we can start analyzing its performance compared to previous years.

To enter information into the annual Famitsu chart, MCV reports that Switch and Switchch Lite managed to sell 4,494,000 integrated units in Japan alone last year. What is most impressive here is that Swingch Lite managed to break the one million mark despite launching in September alone.

Comparing this with Turnch's sales in 2018 yields a 29% decline; Surprisingly, Nintendo's biggest rival in the region, Sony, has seen its annual sales drop by 29% – or 29.5% to be more precise. PS4 sold approximately 773,773 units while PS4 Pro sold 422,380 units, giving Nintendo 75% of all hardware sales of the year.

It was equally successful Pokémon Sword and Shield, the biggest release of the year in Japan for Nintendo and the rest of the industry. The two titles sold 2,988,134 units despite being launched in November, beating the actor who did so well – Super Smash Bros. Finally – nearly 2 million copies.

Can we expect a strong 2020 by the same? Let's hope so!
