Prominet Chinese company Tencent has published his intention to raise Techland, the studio behind the acclaimed Dying Light series and the Dead Island franchise and more. The news was officially announced this afternoon in a blog post by the CEO of Techland, Pawel Marchewka. Tencent is currently in the process of becoming a majority shareholder in Techland, and Pawel hopes that with their financial support, he can further bring the team’s video game visions to life. Here is the statement that was released.
“Dear players, I want to share some really exciting news that will mark the beginning of a new chapter in Techland’s history. Techland has been a big part of my life for over 30 years and it’s something I really appreciate. Techland is our games, the amazing team behind them, and you, the people who play these games. You are the reason why we produce them. Whenever I think about the future of Techland, I want the best for our games, the team, and you. And while I’m very proud of our accomplishments as an independent studio over the years, I believe the best is yet to come.
We dream of making Dying Light the ultimate zombie game experience for players around the world, giving you multiple mind-blowing adventures and pushing the boundaries of solo and online modes to a whole new level. Our open-world action RPG in a fantasy setting is already shaping up to be something truly special, and the goal is to live up to expectations for our first new IP in nearly a decade. Can we make those dreams come true? That we can. But what we have realized is that the best, boldest dreams can only come true by working side by side with like-minded friends and strong partners, who share the same vision, passion and are willing to back it up with their knowledge, experience and skills.
Today I am happy to announce a partnership with Tencent, which is in the process of becoming the majority shareholder of Techland. Teaming up with Tencent will allow us to move full speed ahead with the execution of our gaming vision. We’ve chosen an ally that has already partnered with some of the world’s best video game companies and helped them reach new heights by respecting their ways of working. We will retain full ownership of our IPs, retain creative freedom and continue to operate in the way we believe is right. I will also continue to serve as the studio’s executive director. I couldn’t be happier to take this giant step forward into the future and share this moment with you. Thank you for being with us on this journey, playing our games and being an endless source of inspiration and positive energy that keeps us moving forward. The best memories are yet to come!”
