Legendary Square Enix developer and producer Tetsuya Nomura said in a new interview with Japanese site Young Jump planning to retire in a few years. Mr. Nomura says he wants to finish the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 4 by then, and that his intention with Kingdom Hearts 4 is to conclude the story. Nomura also talked about the upcoming mobile game Kingdom Hearts: The Missing Link and said that the Square Enix employees behind the game’s story had not worked on the Kingdom Hearts franchise before. This was intended to help bring something new to the table. Here are some details:
- KH4 was built with the intention of making it easy for new users to jump in
- KH4 story considered to be a story reset (New Saga) – Quadratum is not 1:1 real life Tokyo, described as “feeling like a dream, unreality in reality” (basically Versus XIII/XVs idea of fantasy based on reality )
- The M issing Links story is being worked on by SE staff members who have not worked on KH before to bring a fresh perspective to KH writing
- Nomura sometimes watches KH YouTube videos to stay up-to-date on the details of KH’s extensive story
- There is a meaning behind Sora’s famous line he said at the beginning of KH1 “Is any of this real or not”. It will be explained at the end.
