The developer Acquire tried to continue the series Way of the Samurai with a fifth installment, but unfortunately the previous one did not receive a very outstanding rating and the company could not get the financing.
In a recent interview with the media 4Gamer, the president of Acquire, Takuma Endospoke to the director of Katanakami, Tetsuji Saito, on how the canceled fifth installment could not see the light, but founded the bases for the new spin-off Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story That will revive the series.
These were Saito's words:
It was around 2015, at the launch of the Steam version of Way of the Samurai 4 for PC. The PC version, based on the console version and aimed at a foreign audience, only received ONE average score of 72, and I personally even felt that the moment of the series had come to an end. I thought it was time to leave the Way of the Samurai series, but Endo told me: “I will meet with [the president of Spike Chunsoft, Mitsutoshi] Sakurai, so go thinking about a sequel to the Way of the Samurai series.
Unfortunately, our efforts for a Way of the Samurai 5 were crushed, but later the issue of "a digital title that could be played casually" emerged.
