Why do we tell you all this? Yes, today brings us the sad news that Kazuhisa Hashimoto – the aforementioned developer at the Gradius port of Famicom who created this code – has passed away. The news was shared by one-time Konami composer Yuji Takenouchi Twitter account.
Speaking of code building in it 2003, Hashimoto said:
I had one boy under me, and he played with a coin. That's really tough. I didn't play that much and obviously couldn't beat it myself, so I put it in the Konami Code. (laughs)
While it never comes to much consolation, it's amazing to think that a simple hack made to simplify one's work has become a huge part of video game photography – and that's a pretty low cost to leave behind, if you ask us.
