Earlier this week, our friends Shinesparkers got the concept art for two projects reportedly canceled by Retro Studios projects.
One was the legendary Legend of the Zelda game starring Sheik, and the other was a Super Mario article about the infamous ghost, Boo. The work of art itself made by former Retro Studios artist, Sammy Hall, appeared to him ArtStation
Hall has now explained to IGN how both projects were in pre-production at the time, and that he doubts that many people at Nintendo saw them before they both became carriers:
I doubt many of Nintendo proper see much of that stuff. I was very much put in a room like Milton from Office Space and was assigned a brainstorming job among other tasks.
He would go on to explain how ideas for the games came from ex-Retro leading Mark Pacini, Todd Keller, and Kynan Pearson, and "the week they went to build some of their stations" projects were canceled.
It is believed that Retro decided or was asked to explore new ideas about Nintendo's existing IP, following the success of the Metroid Prime series. If you would like to see concept art in both of these projects, take a look at our previous posts.
