Entertainment Weekly published a fresh new interview with Jeff Fowler, the current director of the Sonic the Hedgehog films, who informed the site that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will continue the tradition and set the stage for a potential fourth film by introducing another Sonic character. The first film was presented by Tails, and the second by Shadow. It seems likely that a third film could introduce Silver, though Fowler wouldn’t be drawn into spoiling the surprise.
Continuing the tradition set by the previous two films, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (in theaters December 20) will also set the stage for a potential fourth film to introduce another video game character after Tails and now Shadow. Of course, don’t expect Fowler to give up the goods just yet.
“It’s fun to see fan debates online about who’s next, who’s going to be teased at the end of the movie,” he says. “We have a lot of the same conversations. We all have our favorites on the filmmaking side, and we all make excellent cases for ‘it should be this or that.’ It’s fun to keep that anticipation going. This film is no different in terms of teasing new characters.”
